George Polk broadcasting for CBS. Polk was the kind of independent journalist who believed his job was to go after a story rather than accept official government briefings, the kind of reporter officials are generally wary of.  His dispatches questioned the competency and honesty of the Greek government and the American aid that was backing it. Based on his dispatches it is unlikely that he was killed by "communists on orders from the Kremlin" as official investigators (and the press) accepted.
